What is Circle of Security (CoS)?

CoS is an early intervention program for parents and carers of children up to 5 years old. It is based upon decades of research into attachment and it focuses on the relationships which give children emotional support. It is based upon the Circle of Security map that gives a visual representation of attachment. The map helps parents and carers to follow children’s relationship needs to promote and develop secure attachment.

CoS is typically delivered as a group intervention to a small number of parents over an 8 week period. It is structured program that gives parents a different way of thinking about the relationship they have with their child. The program also allows parents to reflect upon their own experiences of being parented and how this may impact upon them.

CoS is a non-judgemental supportive intervention and is not designed to tell parents what they should or shouldn’t do. Rather it aims to give parents a way of understanding their children's behaviour and what they are trying to communicate.

We are able to offer the full group program if we have sufficient demand, we can also deliver the key principles on an individual basis, please contact us to discuss this.
