Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT is based on CBT principles and is a skills-based intervention balancing psychotherapy with an educational component. It was originally developed to treat people experiencing intense emotions and difficulties in their interpersonal relationships, and to support people who may be using self-harm as a way of coping with their distress. However, DBT is now used more widely including with those who find emotions overwhelming due to neurodevelopmental differences (such as Autism and ADHD).

DBT therapy focuses on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and relationship skills. We are able to offer DBT informed therapy. This means that we can support people to understand their distress using a DBT framework through 1:1 therapy sessions.
Within these sessions we will also support people to explore the range of skills available within the DBT programme that can help them regulate their emotions and develop their interpersonal relationship skills and effectiveness.
