The journey to parenthood will be different for everyone, it can bring up many different emotions and there can be unexpected challenges along the way. We can offer highly specialised psychological support at all stages throughout that journey – from early pregnancy right through to parenthood – this includes support with your mental health and wellbeing, thinking about your own experiences of being parented, developing the relationship with your bump and with your baby, and also supporting your partner or other family members.

There are many reasons why people might seek support during this time, some of the common reasons are:

Pregnancy & Birth

  • Increased anxiety during pregnancy including obsessive compulsive disorder

  • Birth trauma – this could be for both mothers and partners

  • Fear of giving birth – Tokophobia

  • Psychological support for pregnant women with a history of sexual abuse

  • Developing the relationship with unborn baby

Post-natal Period

  • Post-natal depression

  • Anxiety or OCD

  • Memories from own childhood experiences

  • Relationship difficulties

Becoming Parents

  • Parenting confidence

  • Relationship with your baby

  • Changes in the couple relationship

We can offer individual and couple interventions drawing on a range of different therapeutic models in line with your specific needs and national guidelines. These include EMDR, CAT, CFT and CBT.

We are also able to offer specialist interventions focussing on the early relationship with your baby including Video Interactive Guidance, Newborn Behavioural Observations, Circle of Security and Theraplay.
