What is Video Interactive Guidance (VIG)?

VIG is a strengths-based, brief intervention typically delivered over 4 to 6 sessions. It aims to promote attunement in relationships, to increase sensitivity to the other person, and to help with mentalization. The principles and practice can be used to work within any relationship and it has been shown to be particularly effective with parents and carers of children across all ages including infants. VIG can also be used during pregnancy to support the relationship between parents and their unborn baby.
VIG can be used in different settings including in health care, schools and social care environments. It has also been used to support professionals in developing their interpersonal skills.
VIG is client centred with the VIG practitioner actively supporting the client in working towards their goals at a speed that feels comfortable. The sessions centre around reviewing short video clips and pictures and reflecting on strengths-based micro moments of attuned interaction.
